A grass roots initiative to revive a sense of community based culture in the midst of a consumption based America. Procession of the Species, initiated over fifteen years ago by Eli Sterling, brings people together in participatory entertainment, to celebrate diversity and each others creativity.
A few of my class mates and I chose to participate in the 2009 Procession of the Species. We built a nurse log (a fallen log in the temperate rain forests of this region that facilitates and nurtures to growth of saplings) to spread awareness about forest ecology, and the importance of live trees, as well as dead ones that nurture new life. Additionally we revived a giant lizard, which had been abandoned the previous year. It was reincarnated from ‘plain old green lizard’ bright psychedelic lizard.
